چکیده

varying degrees of water solubility. Some additives (e.g., methyl tertiary-butyl ether and alcohols) are highly soluble. Other components (e.g., benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes) are slightly soluble. Many components (e.g., ndodecane and n-heptane) have relatively low water solubility under ideal conditions. Physical and chemical properties which affect transport and fate of selected LNAPL compounds and refined petroleum products are presented in Table 1. In general, LNAPLs represent potential long-term sources for continued ground-water contamination at many sites.

Conditions for and characteristics of nonaqueous micellar solutions and microemulsions with ionic liquids

Research on nonaqueous microemulsions containing ionic liquids as polar and/or apolar phase, respectively, is growing at a fast rate. One key property of ionic liquids that highlights their potential and their diversification compared to water is their wide liquid temperature range. In this emerging-area review article we survey recent developments in the field of nonaqueous micellar solutions ...

In-situ control of DNAPL density using polyaphrons.

Once spilled into soils, dense nonaqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) such as chlorinated solvents migrate deep into the subsurface because of their high density. Their downward migration typically continues until capillary forces balance gravitational forces or until essentially impermeable strata are reached. Efforts to mobilize the DNAPL for remediation purposes risks driving the contaminants dee...

Multiple mechanisms contribute to the biodegradation of benzo[a]pyrene by petroleum-derived multicomponent nonaqueous-phase liquids.

The presence of multicomponent nonaqueous-phase liquids (NAPLs) on contaminated sites critically alters the biodegradation susceptibility of many target pollutants, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. This study investigated the effects of petroleum-derived multicomponent NAPLs on biodegradation of benzo[a]pyrene by a bacterial consortium in liquid culture. When high-boiling point diese...
